The role, in context

The Commander Edition is the larger of the two announced editions. The publisher lists it as the base game together with the Blood Ravens Story Prologue, the Aftermath campaign expansion and a digital soundtrack, and adds a three-day early unlock to its pre-order bonus. The store page packages the same purchase differently, as a two-item bundle of the base game and a Year 1 Expansion, and states that the edition plays three days ahead of the full release. Both descriptions appear above because both are published, and because neither of them is presented as a correction of the other.

What is documented over time

The edition was announced alongside the Standard Edition, in the article that also set out the free and paid content planned for the following year. That article is where the four listed contents come from, and where the promise that Commander Edition owners receive both the free and the paid additions is made. The store listing came later and describes the same purchase as a bundle of two items. A launch date named in the original article has since been replaced by a later announcement; the contents of the edition were not changed by that, and no revision to them has been published.

How it is presented in play

The useful comparison is against the Standard Edition, and it is entirely additive: both paid expansions, a digital soundtrack, and the ability to start playing three days before everyone else. The publisher also states that both premium expansions can be bought separately, which makes the edition a bundle rather than the only route to them — so a reader choosing between the two is really deciding whether to buy the expansions now or later. What the published material does not supply is any figure to weigh that against, since the amount shown varies by country, so the choice has to be made on contents alone.

What you can — and cannot — conclude

The mistake worth avoiding is treating the two published descriptions as a contradiction to be resolved. The announcement names four things; the store page names two. They describe the same purchase at different levels of detail, with the Year 1 Expansion standing in for the pair of paid expansions, and nothing published says which wording supersedes the other. Guessing at that would add a claim neither source makes. The other trap is the early unlock: it is stated as three days ahead of the full release, not as a fixed date, and turning it into one would inherit a launch date that has already moved.
